3 Problems You Can Avoid By Drinking More Water
By: HCM Lifestyle’s Madison Colberg
1) Stop your metabolism from slowing down
Dr. Mark Sircus, Director International Medical Veritas Association and Doctor of Oriental and Pastoral Medicine, shared that Mmild dehydration will slow down one’s metabolism as much as 3%. Therefore, if you are drinking water throughout the day you can prevent your metabolism from slowing down, in turn steering clear from potential weight gain. (Visit website)
2) Lack of Concentration
Barry Popkins from the US National Library of of Medicine, states, “mild dehydration produces alterations in a number of important aspects of cognitive function such as concentration, alertness and short-term memory.” However, he University of East London researchers believe that once thirst is relieved, the brain is left to focus on the task in hand. They carried out an experiment on 34 men and women who completed a number of mental tests twice. The test was once after a breakfast of just a cereal bar and again after a cereal bar washed down with a bottle of water. Those who received the water, reported a 14% increase in concentration (Daily Mail, 2013).(Visit Website)
3) Late night snacking
Dr. Sircus shared in a study by University of Washington, reported that “one glass of water shut down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of the dieters in the study.” By filling yourself up with water rather than food, you will not have numerous calories sitting in your stomach when you go to sleep. It is better to go pee in the middle of the night, rather than being kept up by a gurgling stomach that is trying to digest food.
Overall, Health Canada shares that there is not a set amount of water to drink everyday as it varies on exercise, perspiration and individual bodily functions. However, on average, drink 64 ounces of fluid per day, which is equivalent to 8, 8 ounce glasses of fluid. (Mayo Clinic, 2017).(Visit website)
