My Darling Daughter

What does International Women’s Day mean to me? Well, it all begins with her, my daughter. She graced us with her presence nearly 13 years ago, and I am still astonished by all the ways in which her existence has impacted my life, and the life of those around us.
I was 18 years old when I became a mother. I did not expect to become a parent at such a young age, nor did this innocent child expect to be brought into the world under such “unconventional” circumstances.
Her birth has been among the greatest accomplishment of my life and will continue as such because it is her very existence that has led me to embody the strength, endurance, and dedication to succeed in my endeavours. This in which, I may not have achieved without the desire to set an example and path for my young child.
So, what does International Women’s Day really mean to me? Well, it is ultimately a true testament to the embodiment of strength and femininity that I have always intended to demonstrate for Grace.
We are not always in control of the cards that we are dealt in this game of life. All we can do is take the hand that we have been given and make the most of it. Set an intention and leave a mark. Never allowing the challenges faced to be the reason we resign or limit our expectations.
Gracie Heather, you have always been my motivation. You are the reason I went back to school to attain a post-secondary education. You are the reason that I have always challenged myself mentally and physically. And above all, you are the reason that I live each and every day to the fullest.
You have, and always will be my greatest accomplishment.
